We analyzed 120,000 Instagram profiles and determined the benchmarks for likes and comments. The benchmarks help you rank yourself and find out how you perform compared to profiles of similar size. 

Top Profiles Get 75 Thousand Likes on Instagram

How many likes a post gets tells you how successful your posts are. Even if a Like is easily achieved, the total number of interactions show you whether you have reached your followers with your content or not. The more likes per day you achieve, the more successful you are in convincing users of your content. In order to display the data in a chart, all data is logarithmized. 

The data shows that the number of likes per day increases with the size of the profile. Profiles with up to a thousand followers have by far the lowest average of 5 likes per day. Profiles with up to ten thousand followers have 25 likes per day, while the top 10 profiles have twice as many likes per day. From this point on, we see an exponential growth of the values with increasing profile sizes. Profiles between ten thousand and one hundred thousand followers already achieve an average of 244 likes per day. The next profile group with up to five hundred thousand followers records a significant jump with an average of 2,451 likes per day. The largest profiles set themselves apart here once again, achieving a total of 74,724 likes per day among the top 10 profiles.  

Top Profiles Receive More Than a Thousand Comments

Being among the best profiles for comments becomes easier the larger the profile gets. The top 10 percent receive more than twice as many comments per day as the average, depending on the size of the profile.

Profiles with up to one thousand followers hardly register any comments per day and even among the top profiles only achieve 1 comment per day. But the trend quickly rises from one profile size to another. Up to ten thousand followers, the peak value still reaches 3 comments per day. In the next higher category, up to one hundred thousand followers, the value of the top profiles already increases by ten times and thus records three times as many comments per day as the average. For profiles up to five hundred thousand followers, this gap becomes even greater and the best profiles reach numbers five times higher here than average profiles of this size, with 561 comments per day. The largest profiles have a top value of 1,170 comments per day, which is twice as many as the average.

In the end, it’s worth comparing the two metrics.

The larger the profile, the more likes and comments are achieved per day. It also shows that more likes per day are achieved than comments. Profiles with up to a thousand followers get twenty times as many likes as comments. This gap widens as the number of followers increases and clearly reaches its maximum for profiles with five hundred thousand or more, achieving an average of sixty times as many likes as comments.

Both metrics are becoming increasingly important on social media platforms for the algorithm and thus for your visibility. With increasing profile size, you also need to achieve a higher number of interactions to be one of the top performers. To find out how your content is performing, you should compare yourself to the relevant benchmarks to see if you are above or below them and adjust your content accordingly.
