How big is the impact of questions? Content is published in all sorts of forms. Some pages simply post a picture with a funny comment. Others specifically ask their fans for feedback and want to know more about their opinions.
There are different ways to do this. The most commonly used method is asking rhetorical questions. The page doesn’t expect an honest response because it’s a question that doesnt require one.
Take this an example. The place where you can play this is given in the youtube video. The question is redundant and it’s impact minor. This can generally be said as soon as the comments are clustered in people linking their friends. It didn’t matter that they asked a question since it wasnt worth taking serious. However, look at this post.
Especially when it comes to religious believes people tend to be pretty involved as soon as you specifically ask them something. This post didn’t have much to it, but the feedback it received is incredible. The reason for it is the subtle way this post makes you want to be part of a community. If you’re proud about being religious, you might want to show it. Asking these sort of questions has a way more personal touch and will net you more serious responses, therefore strengthen the relationship between you and your fans.
Controversial questions do have a similar effect on the way the post is received.
Both of these posts specifically ask the user what he or she thinks about a certain topic. This can’t be answered with a simple yes/no, but actually requires you to invest a bit more time to take part in the debate. Especially in the USA these posts usually receive more feedback than anything else. User posts end up having dozens of replies with people explaining their reasoning, arguing with individuals who disagree. This is something news- or radio-stations should try to do more often. It helps establishing a community. People will come back if they know that there are always decent conversation on a page. Initiating these arguments while specifically asking them for their opinion is the way to go.
Questions also have a rather big impact on cat-content (or should we call it dog-content in this case?)
Phishing for likes is not always a bad thing to do. I think we all agree that this post doesn’t have a purpose. Yet, english speaking fans tend to react way more often to this sort of content than other people. While this post would have received barely any comments in Germany, it’s completely different in the USA. More than 2,000 replies. Most people posted their own puppies.
So how big is the impact of questions really? If your page tends to post a lot of funny content, then it doesn’t really matter whether you ask a question or simply post a statement. However, as soon as the question is of a more personal nature or about a controversial topic, we can only encourage you to ask your fans for their opinion as often as possible. Users feel more involved and are bound to your page for longer than they usually would be. This will end up increasing the reach of your posts by a significant amount. And all it takes is asking them what they think. From that point on they will start to entertain themselves.Calculated by Likes, Comments and Shares per fan by Fanpage Karma.
